The Old Schoolhouse Kinross is a self-catering holiday let run by Elaine and Ross Starkey. We are the data controller for the personal information described here. This policy explains what we collect when you use this website, enquire, book or stay with us, why we collect it, and your rights under UK data protection law.

What we collect and why

When you send us a message

The contact form asks for your name, email address, an optional phone number, and your message. We use it to reply to you. The message is delivered to our mailbox by Resend, an email delivery service, and kept in our email for as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry and any stay that follows. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering people who contact us.

When you check availability or book

Bookings are taken through Smoobu, our booking system, which appears on this site inside a frame. When you search dates, Smoobu records the dates and guest numbers you enter. When you book, Smoobu collects your name, contact details, address, the names and number of guests, and your payment, which is handled by the payment provider shown at checkout. We never see your full card details. We use this information to provide your stay, to send you arrival details, and to meet the record-keeping requirements of our short-term let licence and fire safety rules. Our legal basis is the contract we have with you, and our legal obligations. Smoobu's own privacy policy is at smoobu.com.

When you book through Airbnb, Booking.com or VRBO

Those platforms send us the details we need to host you. Their own privacy policies govern what they collect from you.

While you stay

We keep guest names, dates of stay and contact details for the period required by our licence and for tax purposes. We do not have cameras inside the property.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site, for example which pages lead to a booking enquiry. It sets cookies only if you accept them in the notice that appears on your first visit. If you decline, Google Analytics receives no cookies and no identifier for you. We have switched on IP anonymisation, we do not use advertising features, and we do not share the data with anyone except Google, which processes it on our behalf. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie Settings link in the footer. Google's own privacy policy is at policies.google.com.

Some parts of the site are provided by other companies, and they may set their own cookies when those parts load:

• Smoobu booking widget and availability calendar, on the home and booking pages.
• Google Maps, on the contact page, to show where we are.
• Google Fonts, which supplies the typefaces on every page. Your browser requests the font files from Google, which sees your IP address.

The site itself stores a small amount of information in your browser only to make things work, such as the dates you have picked on the calendar before you book. Nothing in that storage identifies you to us.

Who we share information with

Only the services named above, which process it on our behalf, and HM Revenue and Customs or Perth and Kinross Council where the law requires it. We do not sell or rent your information to anyone.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not lead to a booking are deleted within 12 months. Booking records are kept for six years after your stay to meet tax and licensing requirements, then deleted.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email info@theoldschoolhousekinross.com and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
